TEHRAN Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei received members of the Assembly of Experts here Wednesday and underscored that Velayat-e-Faqih and negation of foreign interference are the two main pillars of the Islamic government system. Addressing the experts, Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the role and solidarity of the people for the government revolving around Velayat-e-Faqih (guardianship of supreme Muslim jurisprudent).

The Leader pointed out that Velayat-e-Faqih originates from Qoranic verses and its interpretations, and that the holy law-maker of Islam has enunciated the criteria in this respect. People's approach should correspond to their approach towards other religious commands, the Leader said. Ayatollah Khamenei said everyone who feels concerned for people should do something to attract people to faith and heartfelt obedience to Velayat-e-Faqih. The Leader pointed out that the people of Iran are faithful and devoted people fully committed to Islam for which they are ready to make sacrifices.

Ayatollah Khamenei said those who want people to have a practical and objective role and who want to have a divinely-oriented government associated with popularity should limelight the attractions and beauties of this mechanism in a rational context. Elsewhere in his address, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that people have always supported Islam and the Islamic government, adding that even in countries run by Western-style democracy, including the U.S., the role of people in administration of their country cannot be compared to that in Iran. The Leader pointed out that there are illuminating accounts and literature indicating that in the prevailing democratic world people have no role in the real sense of the word; they only have a formal impact.

However, said Ayatollah Khamenei the Iranian revolution and subsequently the Islamic system are solely the products of the people's demands and aspirations. Touching on the significant role played by the late Imam Khomeini in the country's history, the leader said that the late Imam started a lasting political movement based on a divinely inspired school of thought. The Grand Leader referred to the Neither West nor East policy, much pursued by the late Imam Khomeini, as the central theme of the Islamic Republic's manifestations has helped the country resist hegemonic influences.

The world is divided into an ensemble of powerful states possessing advanced technology and strong economies, and a majority of weak and poor countries which are vulnerable to aggressions, said Ayatollah Khamenei. The powerful states take advantage of their modern technology to gain political dominance over the weaker nations, the Leader said and added that the appropriate way of resisting the hegemony of the U.S. is Imam Khomeini's doctrine of building a sturdy and high reaching wall before the U.S.. Ayatollah Khamenei said that negotiations with the U.S. are harmful for the Iranian nation and that the Islamic government has from the outset rejected the idea of any such negotiations and will continue to do same.
