125 Cultural and Historical Monuments Designated in Firouzkouh

TEHRAN The director general of the Cultural Heritage Organization of Tehran Province said here last week, "At the end of examining and registering the historical monuments of Firouzkouh, 125 cultural and historical monuments were designated in the province."

Nasser Pazouki added, "The task was done by a five-member team in 60 days during the years 1999 and 2000."

He said the most important monuments were 39 imamzadehs (holy shrines of members of the household of the Prophet Mohammad (S)), 14 guard posts, 15 sand hills, 5 historical caves, and an embossed engraving.

Also, the director general of the Cultural Heritage Organization of Tehran Province said," The antiquity of these monuments dates from the 8th millennium B.C. to the beginning of the Pahlavi regime."

Pazouki, who has been the supervisor of the research team, said that maps, photographs, designs, and necessary documents have been provided for the registration, further historical study, and renovation of all the designated monuments.
