Fischer on Relations With Iran

TEHRAN Germany's foreign minister warned Iranian counterpart against any attempt by Tehran to build nuclear weapons and expressed concern about recent verdict against reform activists, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Friday.

Joseph Fischer aired Germany's views in talks on Thursday night with Kamal Kharrazi of Iran, who was visiting Berlin to try to discuss bilateral ties. Fischer reminded Kharrazi that Iran belongs to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the international pact banning the spread of nuclear weapons, ministry spokesman Andreas Michaelis said, according to **** Farnkfurter Allgemeine Zeitung****.

"We expect that Iran does not seek to acquire nuclear weapons technology in view of the volatile situation in the region," Michaelis said.
