Romanian Envoy Predicts Bright Prospect for Iran-Romania Ties

TEHRAN Romanian Ambassador to Iran Nicolae Stan said here Monday that the resumption of economic development in Romania and President Mohammad Khatami's reform program in Iran have created a conducive atmosphere for cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking to a group of reporters on the occasion of Romania's National Day on December 1, he said, To utilize the full potentials of the two countries, they have embarked on extensive talks on bilateral diplomatic and economic cooperation this year.'' Stan added that Romania is interested in cooperating with Iran in building industrial units, agricultural and tourism, production of power transmission cables, oil and gas, modernization of railroads and tractor manufacturing factories.
He said that Romania has welcomed President Khatami's proposal on dialogue among civilization, adding that two successful seminar on religion and civilization were held in Romania.
He also referred to the historical ties between the two countries and added that the new Romanian government is interested in strengthening ties with Iran.
Stan said the common anti-colonial struggles of the two countries also contributed to expansion of ties.
He said that the Iran's Parliament Speaker Mahdi Karrubi, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart, is slated to visit Romania in January 2001.
