Sistan and Baluchestan counter-terrorism drill: IRGC announces new successes
TEHRAN – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force announced the elimination of three terrorists and the arrest of six more during an ongoing counter-terrorism exercise in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, bordering Pakistan.
General Ahmad Shafaei, spokesman for the “Martyrs of Security” drill, reported on Wednesday that these actions resulted from joint operations involving IRGC Ground Force personnel, Basij volunteer forces, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies. He further noted that five additional terrorists surrendered.
General Shafaei emphasized the IRGC Ground Force's Quds Base's commitment to continuing operations until all terrorist elements are removed from the region and the exercise objectives are fully achieved.
Sistan and Baluchestan has experienced numerous terrorist attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in recent years. These attacks are attributed to terrorist groups linked to foreign intelligence agencies operating in the country's southeastern and southwestern regions. Israel has been identified as the main supporter of the terror outfits.
The October 26th attack in Taftan County's Gohar Kuh district, which claimed the lives of ten Iranian law enforcement personnel, serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat. The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, known inside Iran as Jaish al-Zulm, claimed responsibility for the attack, one of the deadliest in the province in recent months.
Jaish al-Zulm has a history of violent acts in Sistan and Baluchestan, including the abduction of border guards and attacks on civilians and police stations, aimed at destabilizing the region.
The ongoing IRGC drill that began a month ago has so far liquated dozens of the group’s members and resulted in the arrest of several others.
