Syria FM, Iran security chief discuss regional affairs in Tehran meeting
TEHRAN – Syrian Foreign Minister Basam al-Sabbagh and Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, held talks in Tehran on Wednesday, following a series of high-level meetings with Iranian officials.
The discussions focused on strengthening and expanding economic and financial ties between the two countries, including the implementation of existing agreements.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional developments, specifically addressing the ongoing Israeli aggressions in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. The meeting between al-Sabbagh and Ahmadian is believed to signify an important step towards closer collaboration and alignment of interests between Syria and Iran.
This high-level engagement followed Tuesday's consultations between al-Sabbagh and his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi. The visit to Tehran marked the inaugural trip for the new Syrian Foreign Minister, undertaken at the invitation of Mr. Araghchi.
