TEHRAN – Iran's Foreign Ministry has condemned Israel's recent aggression against Syria, demanding the UN Security Council immediately intervene to halt the illegal entity's "war crimes." 

The ministry pointed to Israel's attacks on various areas in and around Damascus, including the Mazzeh district – home to embassies, security headquarters, and UN offices – as examples of a ruthless onslaught. These attacks, over recent days, resulted in the deaths of 13 Syrians in Mazzeh and 10 Palestinians (including members of the Islamic Jihad Resistance movement) in the outskirts of Damascus.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Israel's expansion of aggression into neighboring countries, violating Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, constitutes a blatant breach of the UN Charter. He urged urgent UN Security Council action to stop the attacks and hold Israel accountable.

Baqaei warned of dire consequences from Israel's continued targeting of civilian infrastructure and mass killings, a violation of international and humanitarian law. 

He further asserted that Israel's arms suppliers are complicit in these crimes, specifically naming the United States as the largest weapons and political supporter of Israel and therefore a partner in its crimes. He offered condolences to the Syrian government and people, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the families of the victims.

These attacks, he noted, occur amid the ongoing war on Gaza and southern Lebanon, where Israeli actions have resulted in the deaths of over 43,760 Palestinians and 3,287 people in Lebanon, alongside tens of thousands injured. 

Israeli crimes against Iran

Also on Saturday, Iran's UN mission demanded the Security Council hold Israel accountable for over four decades of aggression against the Islamic Republic. 

Letters to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Security Council President Barbara Woodward, and General Assembly President Philemon Yang detailed a sustained campaign of Israeli state terrorism, including assassinations, attacks on diplomatic facilities, and sabotage of Iran's nuclear program.

The mission cited the 1982 abduction of four Iranian diplomats in Lebanon as the starting point of this pattern of aggression, highlighting more recent incidents such as the September 17, 2024, attack on Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, the April 1, 2024, assault on Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus, and the October 26, 2024, violation of Iranian sovereignty. 

These actions, the letters stated, constitute gross violations of international law and the UN Charter.

After over a year of unchecked Israeli violence across West Asia, the UN and other international bodies have yet to take any decisive action against the regime, mainly due to pressure from Western politicians.
