TEHRAN – The Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait has confirmed that the Arab state will be returning 36 Iranian prisoners to Iran soon.

On Sunday, Mohammad Toutounchi revealed that although the initial plan involved the extradition of 22 inmates, ongoing negotiations and collaboration with Kuwaiti authorities have successfully increased this figure to 36.

Toutounchi indicated that the transfer is anticipated to take place in the coming days, following the completion of necessary administrative processes.

Iranian diplomat expressed appreciation for the humanitarian efforts of Kuwaiti officials, emphasizing that this development signifies goodwill between the two nations and has the potential to strengthen bilateral relations.

“The extradition of the 36 Iranian prisoners from Kuwait to Iran is being facilitated by an extradition treaty established between the two countries. This initiative has received backing from the Iranian embassy in Kuwait, along with cooperation from Kuwaiti officials,” the ambassador asserted.

Toutounchi remarked, “It is important to highlight that an agreement on judicial and legal cooperation regarding civil, commercial, and criminal matters was signed between Iran and Kuwait in 2004.”

Earlier, on October 18, the deputy head of international affairs of the Iranian Judiciary announced the release of 17 Iranian prisoners in Georgia to continue serving their sentences in Iran.
