Iran warns Israel pushing region toward ‘catastrophe’
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says the Israeli regime is dragging the entire West Asia region into a “catastrophe”.
The foreign minister made the remarks after holding talks on Wednesday with Saudi de facto leader Mohammad Bin Salman in Riyadh. The talks centered on the Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon and how to bring an end to Tel Aviv’s conflagration in the region.
Writing on his X account, Araghchi said, “Very important discussions on critical issues of common concern with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.”
Iran has been warning for months that Israel is pushing the region into an all-out war.
“Israeli regime is dragging the whole region into a catastrophe. Insight, wisdom, courage and cooperation are what the region needs to overcome this challenging time,” Araghchi wrote.
Israeli forces fired on two positions used by UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on Thursday and at another one on Wednesday, the UN force said, as Israel pressed its air and ground assaults on Lebanon.
The UNIFIL force said two of its peacekeepers were injured in one of the incidents, when an Israeli tank fired at an observation tower at the force's main headquarters in Naqoura, hitting the tower and causing them to fall.
Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law," UNIFIL said in a statement, Reuters reported.
