TEHRAN – Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of Iran's Parliament, departed Tehran for Tajikistan on Wednesday, marking a mission aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and addressing pressing regional issues. 

His visit comes at the invitation of the Tajik Parliament to participate in an international parliamentary meeting celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of legislative activities in the Central Asian nation.

During a press conference before his departure, Qalibaf emphasized the trip as an opportunity to foster connections among nations, particularly with members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and beyond. He noted that these international parliamentary gatherings provide a platform for discussing collaborative efforts and following up on previous agreements.

Highlighting the deep-rooted ties between Iran and Tajikistan—spanning civilization, culture, language, and security—Qalibaf expressed optimism about advancing discussions on critical issues such as water resources. He also underscored the importance of addressing the water crisis affecting both nations, particularly in Iran's eastern and northeastern regions.
