TEHRAN – The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed the martyrdom of Majid Divani, a military advisor from Khorramshahr, Iran, following an Israeli airstrike on Syria.

According to the IRGC's statement, Divani succumbed to injuries on Thursday, three days after being wounded in the airstrike.

“Once again, the Islamic Revolution, by offering one of the defenders of the shrine, has strengthened the deep roots of the Islamic Revolution,” the statement read. 

This incident follows a pattern of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, particularly on Syrian soil, where Israeli forces have repeatedly targeted Iranian forces. In April, a series of Israeli strikes on Iran’s consulate in Syria resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi. General Zahedi was the highest-ranking Iranian military official to be killed since the 2020 assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad, which was conducted by the U.S. in cooperation with Israel.

General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, General Zahedi’s deputy in the Quds Force, was also martyred in the April attack, along with several other senior IRGC advisers. In response to what Iran termed a "terrorist act," the Islamic Republic launched over 300 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and suicide drones targeting Israeli military positions.

Just last month, another senior IRGC commander was killed in an Israeli airstrike that also claimed the life of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut, further intensifying hostilities between the two nations.

On Tuesday, Iran launched a barrage of at least 180 missiles targeting the Tel Aviv area in retaliation for ongoing Israeli actions. This assault sent millions of Israeli citizens scrambling to bomb shelters, highlighting the escalating military confrontations between the two sides.
