TEHRAN- The Nasl-e Khalil ensemble, a Kurdish tanbur group, is scheduled to perform at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on October 6.  

Under the direction of vocalist Hajhir Mehrafrouz, the ensemble will present a captivating repertoire of traditional Kurdish music pieces.

The tanbur holds a special significance in Kurdish culture, serving as an inseparable part of the lives of the Kurds in Iran. For many families, the instrument is more than just a musical tool; it is a means of storytelling, connecting generations, and expressing deep cultural identity. Children often learn to play the tanbur before they master the basics of reading and writing, highlighting the importance of music in their upbringing. 

Traditionally, the tanbur is crafted from wood, featuring a long neck and a unique, resonant sound that is integral to Kurdish folk music. Its melodies evoke a rich tapestry of emotions, often reflecting themes of love, longing, and the beauty of nature. This deep-rooted cultural connection ensures that the art of tanbur playing is passed down through generations, reinforcing community bonds and keeping the Kurdish heritage alive.
