Iran’s monthly car output up 8%
TEHRAN - Iran’s car production increased by eight percent in the Iranian month of Shahrivar (August 21-September 21) as compared to the previous month, an industry ministry official said.
Mehrdad Khosravi, the director general of the Iranian Industry Ministry's Auto Industry Office, said that 81,509 cars were produced by automakers in the mentioned month, IRNA reported.
The country’s car output stood at 75,642 in the Iranian month of Mordad (July 21 to August 22), according to Khosravi.
The official also noted that bus production in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to August 22, 2024) registered a 22 percent growth compared to the same period last year.
He further added that production of dual-fuel cars also registered a 45 percent growth between March 21 and August 22, 2024 compared to last year’s corresponding period.
Some 1,200 hybrid cars were produced in the country from March 21 to August 22, 2024, he added.
Back in June, Iran’s former Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade Abbas Aliabadi said 1.5 million cars will be produced in the country by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2025).
More than 1.5 million cars will be manufactured in the country by the end of the current Iranian calendar year, Aliabadi said, speaking at the 19th International Auto Parts Exhibition 2024 dubbed “IAPEX”.
The industry minister criticized the poor quality of cars produced in the country and called for boosting the quality of the cars to be competitive in the international arena, Mehr news agency reported.
He also stated that Iran should be industrialized and the country has a high potential for becoming industrialized.
The 19th International Exhibition of Automotive Parts, Accessories and Sets was held during June 18-21 in Tehran.
