Yemen fires missile at Tel Aviv in solidarity with Lebanon
Yemen’s Ansarullah has fired a missile at areas near Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel, in solidarity with the Lebanese.
The Israeli army claimed it intercepted the missile after sirens and explosions were heard early on Friday.
"Following the sirens that sounded in central Israel, the surface-to-surface missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by an 'Arrow' interceptor outside of Israeli territory," the army said in a statement, Reuters reported.
Israeli media said at least 2 million settlers ran to shelters amid the attack. They added that nearly 20 Israelis were injured while running for shelter.
The attack came after the Ansarullah leader said in a televised address on Thursday that the movement will not hesitate to support Lebanon and Hezbollah in the face of Israeli attacks.
In a televised address, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi condemned Israeli strikes on Lebanon, saying they aim to block Hezbollah from "supporting Gaza and the Palestinian people".
He said Israel's intensified aggression against Lebanon is "pre-planned aggression" that had been "in place for years" while asserting Hezbollah is "stronger than ever before," Press TV reported.
Yemen's Ansarullah movement has fired missiles and drones at Israel repeatedly in solidarity with the Palestinians since the Gaza war in October last year.
In July, the Houthis fired a drone at Tel Aviv for the first time, killing a man and wounding four people.
