TEHRAN- The Iranian Permanent Mission to the United Nations has characterized the adoption of the document known as the “Pact for Future” as non-binding and voluntary. 

Some members have described the initiative as a significant step by the global organization aimed at reshaping international governance.

The Islamic Republic of Iran's permanent mission has stated that it will not be bound by any aspects of the document that conflict with the nation's priorities, laws, regulations, and policies, as well as Islamic principles, cultural norms, and religious doctrines, according to a statement issued by the Iranian Mission on Monday.

The statement emphasized, “From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Pact for the Future document is non-binding and voluntary.”

On Sunday, the United Nations issued a statement confirming the General Assembly's adoption of the Pact for the Future, which aims to unite the increasingly fragmented nations of the world to address 21st-century challenges, including climate change, artificial intelligence, escalating conflicts, and rising inequality and poverty.

The Pact for Future is a comprehensive 42-page document that urges the leaders of the 193 member states to translate their commitments into tangible actions that will positively impact the lives of over 8 billion people globally.

According to the UN statement, the plan received approval during the “Future Summit,” which took place over two days at the invitation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, despite opposition from Russia.

In his opening remarks at the summit, Guterres called for the endorsement of the “Pact for Future,” describing it as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to alter the trajectory of human history by revitalizing international cooperation.
