Iran condemns deadly terrorist attack in Afghanistan

TEHRAN- The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry has vehemently denounced a terrorist attack that targeted Shia civilians in Sangi Takht, located in central Afghanistan. 

Nasser Kanaani expressed his condolences to the victims' families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the incident.

He reiterated Tehran’s backing for the Afghan authorities' counter-terrorism efforts and called for the immediate prosecution of those responsible for the attack.

The assault, which occurred on Thursday and was claimed by the Daesh terrorist organization, resulted in the deaths of at least 14 individuals and left four others injured.

This attack was specifically aimed at Shia civilians who were gathered to welcome residents of Sangi Takht returning from a pilgrimage to Karbala, Iraq, to honor the holy shrine of the third Shia Imam.

Iran's embassy criticizes the Daesh attack in Afghanistan

The Iranian embassy in Kabul vehemently denounces the martyrdom of several Shiites in Daykundi, Afghanistan, at the hands of the merciless terrorist organization Daesh. The embassy extends its prayers for the elevation of the martyrs' status and divine strength for their families.

In its official statement, Iran’s embassy calls for accountability for those responsible for this tragic event and expresses its readiness to assist in this pursuit.

Following the attack on individuals welcoming pilgrims from Karbala in Ghor province, Daesh has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Afghanistan's TOLOnews highlighted that the assault specifically targeted the Hazaras, the third largest ethnic group in the country, occurring in the Kariodal region along the border of Daykundi and Ghor provinces.
