Malayer tourism soars tenfold for furniture festival

TEHRAN - The fifth Hand-Carved Furniture Festival in Malayer has brought at least a tenfold increase in tourist numbers compared to last year, filling the city with celebrations, according to a local official.

“We are witnessing thousands of tourists from all over the country,” Salman Esmaeili said on Friday. “The city has embraced a vibrant tourism spirit, with celebrations taking place every night in various parts of the county.”

Highlighting the economic aspects of the month-long event, which began on September 5, Esmaeili pointed out the positive effects on local businesses, particularly as tourism-related activities have boosted income for many sectors.
“We are proud to see the Hand-Carved Furniture Festival become one of the most successful events provincewide, and we aim to create a month full of joy and social enthusiasm for the people of Malayer,” Esmaeili noted.

In addition to the furniture festival, the official mentioned the ongoing sour cherry festival in Zangeneh, describing the city as a hub for delicious local delicacies, diverse fruit products, and a center for sour cherry, walnut, and spring blossoms.

Malayer is a city located in the western part of Iran, within the Hamadan province. Known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, Malayer has been a prominent center for craftsmanship, particularly in wood carving and furniture making. The city is renowned for its traditional hand-carved furniture, which showcases intricate designs and skilled artistry.
