TEHRAN - Chinese ambassador to Iran, Cong Peiwu, has announced a potential sister city partnership between Chinese cities and Semnan, reflecting the historical ties between the two nations.

During his visit to Semnan province on Friday, the Ambassador announced that Chinese cities are prepared to enter into a sister city agreement with Semnan. He highlighted the significant historical and tourism connections between China and Iran, particularly with Semnan, as a basis for this initiative.

The envoy noted that Semnan’s proximity to Iran’s capital makes it a unique province with substantial reasons for various agreements. He expressed a desire to promote Semnan as a destination for Chinese tourists and investors, emphasizing the potential for increased bilateral engagement.

The ambassador also remarked on the deep-rooted civilizational ties between Iran and China, which span over 2,500 years. Historical attractions like the Safavid caravanserais in Semnan could particularly appeal to Chinese tourists, according to Cong.

Additionally, the envoy highlighted the province’s sunny regions, especially in Garmsar, as ideal locations for solar power plants. He also noted that Garmsar’s pomegranates are popular among Chinese consumers, suggesting that increased interactions could boost tourism to local pomegranate orchards.
