TEHRAN– Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says that Iran is keen on entering a new era of diplomacy with the GCC, where both sides can work together to overcome regional challenges and achieve shared goals.

Araqchi made the remarks in a phone conversation with Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), on Friday.

During the conversation, Al-Budaiwi extended his congratulations to Araqchi on his recent appointment as Iran’s foreign minister.

The call, which highlighted the importance of diplomatic relations between the two parties, focused on exploring avenues for enhancing cooperation and strengthening ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the GCC.

During the discussion, Al-Budaiwi underscored the critical role that Iran plays in maintaining peace and stability across the region.

He emphasized that the GCC, representing six member states, views Iran as a key regional player and is eager to engage in dialogue and collaboration on the significant challenges facing the West Asia.

Al-Budaiwi's remarks reflected a growing interest within the GCC to build a constructive and cooperative relationship with Iran, particularly in addressing pressing security and economic concerns.

In response, Araqchi expressed his sincere appreciation for Al-Budaiwi’s warm congratulations and reiterated Iran’s commitment to fostering amicable and brotherly relations with the GCC and its member countries.

He conveyed Iran's desire to elevate its interactions with the GCC to a new level, advocating for a relationship characterized by mutual understanding and collaborative efforts.

President Masoud Pezeshkian has committed to making stronger relationships with neighboring countries a key focus of his administration.

In a July 12 article, Pezeshkian stated, "My administration will place a strong emphasis on enhancing our ties with neighboring nations."

He further emphasized, "We will advocate for the creation of a ‘strong region’ where cooperation prevails, rather than allowing any one country to dominate or seek hegemony."

On Thursday, Pezeshkian reiterated that the Islamic Republic is dedicated to a policy rooted in promoting peace, friendship, reducing tensions, and engaging positively with countries around the world.
