TEHRAN - Iran’s new Minister of Sport and Youth, Ahmad Donyamali, has vowed to revolutionize the country’s sports scene and achieve historic results at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Speaking at a national wrestling event, Donyamali praised Iran’s wrestling and continued: “We have four more years until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and we must shine there.”

The minister emphasized the importance of utilizing technology and establishing Iran as a global leader in sports strategy.

“I'm not used to routine work. We have many young managers like Alireza Dabir, president of Iran wrestling federation, in the country. I want my country to be among the best in the world of sport.. So I promise here, with continuous planning, we will use all our abilities at the Los Angeles Olympics,” he added.

Donyamali highlighted the recent successes of Iranian wrestlers and taekwondo athletes but stressed the need for broader medal-winning achievements.

“We must examine this issue and ensure other sports also reach the podium,” he said.

Donyamali was appointed as Iran’s sports minister following the election of Masoud Pezeshkian as president. He secured 253 votes out of 288.

The minister concluded by expressing optimism for the future of Iranian sports.

“I hope we will create good days for Iranian sports and that positive things will happen for our youth, leading to great achievements for our athletes,” Donyamali concluded.
