TEHRAN - A special pottery workshop for children and young adults was recently organized in the village of Korit, which is situated in Tabas county of South Khorasan province.

The workshop, aimed at children aged 7 to 12, was the first of its kind and took place at the Korit Ceramic Workshop’s art gallery and store on Friday, CHTN reported.

Mohammad Arab, the head of Tabas county’s  Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department, announced that 16 young participants attended the workshop. They received hands-on training in basic pottery techniques, and each participant was awarded a certificate of completion.

Arab highlighted the importance of such workshops in nurturing creativity and emotional well-being in children.

Working with clay, he noted, is particularly beneficial for children, offering them a natural and soothing medium to express themselves.

“The process of shaping and reshaping clay not only helps in reducing stress but also aids in channeling negative energies and managing emotions like anger and frustration.”

Moreover, scientific studies have shown that working with clay can improve various skills in children, including creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving, while also helping to address issues such as hyperactivity and attention deficits, the official explained.

Korit has long been a regional hub for pottery whose know-how is passed down from generation to generation.
