TEHRAN- Senior officials from Iran and Spain have highlighted the importance of enhancing legal and judicial collaboration between their nations. 

As reported by IRNA, Kazem Gharibabadi, the secretary of Iranian High Council for Human Rights, met with Antonio Sánchez-Benedito Gaspar, the Spanish ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During their discussion, they explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations across various sectors, particularly in legal and judicial matters. 

Gharibabadi expressed Iran's willingness to further develop its relationship with Spain moving forward. 

He noted that specialized dialogues on human rights and the sharing of judicial expertise could benefit citizens of both countries. 

The Iranian official cautioned Spain against becoming a refuge for fraudsters and criminals. 

In response, the Spanish ambassador indicated that he would relay Tehran’s positions regarding the extradition of offenders to Madrid.

Iran and Spain have developed formal legal and diplomatic ties. The nations have entered into multiple bilateral agreements, notably the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation established in 1977, which outlines the basis for collaboration across various sectors. 

Regarding legal cooperation, both countries have engaged in the exchange of judicial delegations and have made efforts towards the extradition of offenders and the transfer of inmates. 

They have also formalized agreements concerning extradition and legal assistance in criminal cases. Furthermore, Iran and Spain collaborate in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.
