TEHRAN - Iran-Tajikistan tourism roadshow has been held at the Tajik embassy in Tehran, just days after the implementation of a visa waiver for air travel between the two nations.

During the event, held on Saturday, which focused on showcasing the tourism potential of Iran and Tajikistan, travel agencies and airlines from both sides signed several cooperation agreements to enhance tourism exchanges between the two countries.

The Tajik ambassador to Tehran, Zohidi Nizomiddin Shamsiddinzoda emphasized the global efforts to develop tourism, noting that it not only contributes to economic growth and foreign exchange but also strengthens friendships and ties between nations.

The ambassador highlighted the initiatives taken by Tajikistan’s President, Emomali Rahmon, to advance the country’s tourism sector, stating that the necessary infrastructure is now in place.

“Tajikistan, with a population of 10 million, attracts 1.46 million foreign tourists annually,” he outlined, adding that Iran is one of the most important countries for Tajikistan in this regard.

The envoy underscored the shared linguistic, historical, religious, and cultural ties between Iran and Tajikistan, which make tourism exchanges between the two countries particularly significant.

He also praised the recent visa waiver between Iran and Tajikistan, which was implemented on August 10, highlighting that the launch of flights between Tehran and Dushanbe was the first step following the visa waiver.

The ambassador expressed hopes for extending this waiver to cover all air travelers between the two countries.
Furthermore, on the sidelines of the roadshow, Iranian and Tajik tourism professionals signed three significant agreements. These agreements include establishing multiple direct flights from Tajikistan to Tehran and Shiraz, creating a literary tourism route between the two countries, and organizing a Tajikistan tourism exhibition in collaboration with Iran in early fall.
