TEHRAN – Flydubai, an Emirati government-owned low-cost airline, is set to launch direct flights to Kerman on September 9.

Currently, the Kerman-Dubai route is arranged to be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

International flights to and from Kerman will be resumed after nearly 10 years, providing a suitable connection to at least 150 countries around the world, IRNA reported.

This development is seen as a major boost to Kerman's connectivity, providing significant opportunities for local businesses, tourists, and the broader community, the report added.

Relevant officials are now focused on coordinating efforts, spreading awareness, and maximizing capacity to ensure the sustainability of these flights, which are expected to greatly benefit the local economy.

It is said that the frequency of flights could increase to a daily schedule given the presence of large state-owned and industries, automotive companies, various tourism opportunities, and the region's unique agricultural exports.

Kerman is something of a cultural melting pot, blending various regional cultures over time. It is also home to rich tourist spots and historical sites, including bazaars, mosques, caravanserais and ruins of ancient urban areas.

It is bounded by the provinces of Fars in the west, Yazd in the north, South Khorasan in the northeast, Sistan-Baluchestan in the east, and Hormozgan in the south. It includes the southern part of the central Iranian desert, the Dasht-e Lut.
