TEHRAN - To mark World Mosque Day, the iconic book "Voyage en Perse" by Eugene Flandin, which is housed at the Koushk-e Ahmad Shahi Museum, is being introduced and showcased in a virtual exhibition.

This significant work by the French globetrotter and artist features a collection of sketches and commentary on Iran's historical monuments and mosques.

The book "Voyage en Perse" is currently preserved in the Koushk-e Ahmad Shahi Museum's archives in northern Tehran, CHTN reported on Wednesday.

 “The book, of which 600 copies were printed, includes the present copy numbered 82. In honor of World Mosque Day, selected images of mosques from this book are being displayed virtually,” the organizers said.

World Mosque Day is observed annually on August 21, corresponding to the 31st of Mordad in the Iranian calendar.

Flandin (1809-1889) was a French architect, painter, illustrator, and politician. In 1840, during the reign of Mohammad Shah Qajar, Flandin traveled to Iran accompanied by architect Pascal Coste. This journey was commissioned by the French Academy of Fine Arts to document and illustrate Iran's ancient sites, significant places, and statues.

The exhibition will be offering a unique opportunity to explore Flandin’s detailed depictions of Iranian mosques, shedding light on the architectural and cultural heritage of the country as seen through the eyes of a 19th-century French artist.
