TEHRAN- The deputy head of Iran's anti-narcotics headquarters has announced a collaborative agreement between Iran and Afghanistan to enhance efforts in combating narcotics and drug trafficking through information exchange. 

During a meeting with representatives of Afghanistan's ruling Taliban government in Kabul, Mohammad Zarei highlighted discussions focused on strategies for combating narcotics, including prevention, demand reduction, and treatment for drug addiction. 

He noted, “The latest agreement includes the exchange of information on anti-narcotics efforts, the provision of educational resources, and the establishment of joint committees.” 

Zarei emphasized that the issues of drug consumption and transit are not confined to a single area, suggesting that a regional and multilateral approach to information sharing is essential in addressing this crisis. 

The two nations have committed to enhancing coordination to leverage their informational resources to effectively counter and dismantle drug trafficking networks, according to the Iranian anti-narcotics official.

In late June, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared on the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands as a leader in the worldwide battle against drug traffickers and those who deal in death, emphasizing its commitment to confront this global menace.
