TEHRAN- The secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights has called on Iran’s Foreign Ministry to take action for the extradition of Mohammad Javad (Sasha) Sobhani from Spain.

In a correspondence addressed to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Kazem Gharib Abadi highlighted Sobhani’s offenses, which include involvement in gambling and betting, misleading Iranian youth, child abuse, and money laundering. 

Gharib Abadi stated, “All pertinent information and documentation had been previously submitted to the Spanish authorities via diplomatic channels; however, no progress has been made by Spain.”

Emphasizing the significance of Sobhani’s case and the detrimental impact of his criminal activities on societal psychological security, he stressed the need for special measures to facilitate his extradition based on cooperation and reciprocity principles. 

Gharib Abadi also urged Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s acting foreign minister, to take prompt and decisive action to ensure Sobhani is extradited and held accountable for his actions.

Mohammad Javad Sobhani, also known as Sasha Sobhani, is the son of Ahmad Sobhani, a former ambassador of Iran to Venezuela and Colombia. Sobhani earned a business management degree from UCAB University in Venezuela. He has lived abroad for several years, running a website dedicated to online gambling and casino games. His engagement in illicit financial practices, including fraud, moral corruption, and money laundering, has resulted in his inclusion on Interpol's blacklist.
