Tehran, Ouagadougou move to strengthen handicraft ties
TEHRAN - In a step towards bolstering cultural ties, the ambassador of Burkina Faso to Tehran, has met with the Iranian deputy minister of handicrafts.
On Monday morning, Mohammadi Kaboureh and Maryam Jalali discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in the field of handicrafts and traditional art, CHTN reported.
Jalali pointed to the International Art and Craft Fair in Ouagadougou, as a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise. “Holding B2B and B2C meetings would be beneficial in achieving mutual goals,” she further noted.
The deputy minister expressed optimism that collaboration in the fields of education, exhibition, and sales of handicrafts would be mutually advantageous.
Jalali further noted that with Burkina Faso’s keen interest, the presence of Iranian artists at the exhibition and broader cultural and economic cooperation through handicrafts could become a reality, overcoming existing trade barriers.
The discussions also covered potential collaboration in experiential tourism, leveraging the rich talent of Iranian artists in jewelry and textiles, organizing cultural weeks in Burkina Faso, and joint efforts in marketing and consumer research.
The Burkinabe ambassador expressed his gratitude for the growing relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Burkina Faso and voiced his desire to strengthen ties in the field of handicrafts.
He emphasized the importance of this meeting as a sign of his country’s respect and willingness to collaborate more closely with Iran, particularly in sharing expertise.
Inviting Iranian participation in the 17th International Art and Craft Fair in Ouagadougou, the ambassador described the biennial event as one of the largest handicrafts exhibitions among African countries, with participation from over 50 nations. He stressed that it would be an excellent opportunity to showcase the artistry of Iranian craftsmen.
The session also touched upon the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding on tourism and handicrafts cooperation, an idea welcomed by the Iranian side.
