Yahya Sinwar named Hamas chief following Haniyeh assassination

Hamas named its Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar as chief of the group following Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran on July 31, the group said in a statement late on Tuesday.

Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was assassinated in the early hours of last Wednesday as a small projectile hit his room in northern Tehran. Haniyeh had visited Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony Iran’s new president Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iran has unequivocally announced that it will take avenge of Israel for the assassination that violated national sovereignty.

Israel is living in a state of fear, waiting for Iran’s retaliation.
