Baqeri discusses response to Hamas leader’s assassination with lawmakers
TEHRAN – Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri Kaani met with members of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee on Tuesday to discuss the circumstances of Iran’s retaliation for Israel’s assassination of Hamas Political Chief Ismail Haniyeh.
Baqeri reportedly asserted that the foreign ministry would respond firmly to "the terrorist aggression of the Zionist regime." He said, “While asserting our right to respond, we will utilize all political, legal, and public diplomacy capacities to pursue this matter.”
Haniyeh was killed on July 31 when a short-range projectile deployed by the Israeli regime targeted his temporary residence in Tehran, hours after he attended the new Iranian President’s inauguration ceremony. Multiple Iranian officials including the Leader of the Islamic Revolution have vowed to avenge the Palestinian leader’s blood.
The meeting also addressed the need for reciprocal actions concerning the closure of Islamic Center Hamburg in Germany.
