TEHRAN - Over 11,000 visitors have stayed in the rural accommodations of Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad so far this year, showcasing the province’s rising popularity in ecotourism.

“Since the very first day of the current Persian year (started on March 20), 11,273 travelers have been accommodated in the province’s rural tourism destinations,” a local official in charge of tourism told CHTN.

Saeed Talebipour highlighted that the presence of 16 targeted tourism villages, alongside hundreds of villages with pristine nature and scenic landscapes, has made these areas popular among enthusiasts of rural tourism.

He identified Marin, Kareyak, Kakan, Algen, Kowkhdan, and Deh Sheykh as some of the key tourist villages where significant ecotourism infrastructure has been developed.

The eco-lodges have accommodated some 8,494 people, demonstrating their significant role in hosting tourists, the official noted. This figure, he emphasized, reflects a growing interest in traditional living experiences.

Talebipour described eco-lodges as traditional houses with distinctive, local architecture, offering guests local foods and breads. He explained that ecotourism is a branch of the tourism industry that has gained popularity among nature and culture enthusiasts, especially in rural communities.

He also stated that these infrastructures, by wisely utilizing natural resources and the environment, play a crucial role in empowering local communities, with the main distinction of these accommodations being their traditional style.

Talebipour noted that the total number of stays in official and unofficial tourism infrastructures in the province since the beginning of the year has reached 211,000.

He concluded that 2,500 beds are available in various parts of the province, with a significant number of these infrastructures located in rural areas.

Home to diverse natural landscapes and cultural heritage gems, Iran has already taken steps to promote ecotourism that focuses on minimizing the negative impact of conventional tourism on the environment in a sustainable approach.

Eco-lodges play a significant role in the tourism industry by offering travelers a sustainable and immersive experience in nature. As concerns about environmental conservation and responsible travel continue to grow, eco-lodges have become increasingly popular among eco-conscious tourists.

One key aspect of eco-lodges is their ability to attract travelers who are seeking authentic and environmentally friendly experiences.

Eco-lodges also cater to a niche market of travelers who are looking for unique and off-the-beaten-path accommodations. Unlike traditional hotels, eco-resorts are often situated in remote or pristine natural locations, offering guests a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of urban life and reconnect with nature.

As the demand for sustainable travel continues to rise, eco-lodges are likely to play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of tourism.
