Foreign dignitaries arrive in Tehran to attend presidential inauguration

TEHRAN – Foreign dignitaries have arrived in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, which is set to occur on Tuesday afternoon at the Iranian parliament.

The Iranian Parliament announced a notable list of international attendees, including Pornchai Danvivathana, Secretary-General of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD); Ronald Lamola, South African Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hussein Mohamed Latheef, Vice President of the Maldives; Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament; and Moustadroine Abdou, Speaker of the Comorian Parliament.

Other distinguished guests include Brigi Rafini, Niger's Minister of Defense, accompanied by Bakary Yao Sangaré, Niger's Foreign Minister, and Soumana Boubacar, Niger's Cabinet Minister; an Icelandic MP; Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives; Mullah Abdul Kabir, Deputy Prime Minister of the Acting Government of Afghanistan; and Augustin Andriamanana, Deputy Speaker of Madagascar's National Assembly.

Representatives from Libya, Ghana, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Cuba, Myanmar, Sudan, Gambia, Malta, and Mongolia will also be in attendance. These officials have already arrived in Iran and received formal welcomes.

Alireza Sharifi, head of the inauguration committee, highlighted the participation of representatives from over 70 countries and more than 600 domestic and international journalists. The ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 30.

Following the validation of his presidency by the Leader of Islamic Revolution on Sunday, President Pezeshkian will take the oath of office before the Holy Quran, in the presence of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, members of the Guardian Council, and the Chief Justice, as mandated by Article 121 of the Constitution.

Sharifi, who also serves as Deputy Executive of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, detailed the ceremony's arrangements, stating that the speaker of the parliament has issued the necessary instructions to ensure the event's smooth execution. The inauguration committee was promptly formed following the election results and has been operating at the highest level to prepare for this significant occasion.
