TEHRAN- The Sahand destroyer of the Iranian Navy was transferred to the maritime industries in Bandar Abbas for repairs and overhaul.

According to the Army’s public relations, the Sahand destroyer, which was damaged as a result of an accident in recent days, sent for repairs to one of the docks related to the maritime industries in Bandar Abbas.

After relentless and round-the-clock efforts by the Iranian Navy personnel, the Sahand destroyer, which had lost its balance and sunk due to water infiltration into its tanks while being repaired at the dock, was successfully pulled out of the water after 13 days. It has now been restored to buoyancy.

Sahand is the third surfing class destroyer built and designed by Iran’s naval forces. The destroyer was unveiled in September 2012 and launched in December 2018. It is named in the memory of destroyer "Sahand-class Alvand" which in 1988, engaged in heavy fights with the United States Navy fleet in the Persian Gulf and sank during one of its operations.
