TEHRAN- The Iranian minister of Interior arrived in Baghdad to attend a regional conference. 

According to Tasnim, Ahmad Vahidi, the Minister of Interior, departed for Baghdad on Monday to participate in the second regional conference on combating drugs. Upon his arrival in Baghdad, he was welcomed by Abdul Amir al-Shimmari, the Minister of Interior of Iraq. 

Meetings and discussions with senior Iraqi officials, participation in the second regional conference on combating drugs of neighboring countries, and following up on issues related to the Arbaeen Walk are among the main focuses of the Iranian Minister of Interior’s two-day visit to Iraq.

The second regional conference on combating drugs will be held in Baghdad with the presence of the interior ministers and heads of drug enforcement agencies from Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon. A preliminary meeting with the heads of police from the member countries’ expert delegations was also held on Saturday and Sunday.

Iran has always faced security challenges in this area due to its location in a critical region for the production and transit of drugs originating from Afghanistan and Pakistan. This issue has not only prioritized the fight against the cultivation, production, trafficking, and abuse of drugs in Iran but has also urged Tehran to seek closer regional cooperation in combating the drug trade.
