TEHRAN - To enhance the accessibility of local handicrafts to tourists, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari’s handicrafts department has launched some new markets and centers this summer, according to a local official.

“21 permanent and temporary craft markets and centers are activated across the province for the summer season,” Mehrab Mohammadi told IRNA on Friday.
Mohammadi highlighted that three permanent handicraft markets are operational within the province.
Given the influx of tourists to the province during the summer due to its pleasant climate, he continued, efforts have been made to establish temporary handicraft centers in popular tourist spots.
These centers aim to capitalize on summer tourism to introduce and sell local handicrafts, Mohammadi further elaborated.

“Following the late President Ayatollah Raisi’s emphasis on establishing permanent handicraft markets at city entrances,” Mohammadi brought to light. “Steps are being taken in the province to secure land for such projects.”

He noted that although demand for handicrafts depends on household income, the high volume of summer tourists boosts sales. The most sought-after handicrafts include felt products, traditional jewelry, precious stones, metal crafts, embroidery, and hand-woven items. “Smaller and more affordable items tend to attract more tourists,” the official added.

In his final words, Mohammadi stated that out of 80 identified handicraft disciplines in the province, 50 are currently active, while the others are nearly forgotten.
