Pezeshkian honors legacy of late Raisi with family visit

TEHRAN – On Thursday, Iran’s President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian visited the home of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, whom he will be succeeding after winning runoff presidential elections on July 5.

Pezeshkian, accompanied by his own daughter, engaged in a heartfelt conversation with the late president's family members, expressing his deep appreciation for Raisi’s dedicated service to the nation. He praised the late president's tireless efforts in serving the Iranian populace and advancing the country, calling them "valuable and unforgettable." 

Raisi’s widow, Jamileh Alamolhoda, echoed the importance of continuing the path of serving the Iranian people. She shared anecdotes about her late husband's character, highlighting his unwavering commitment to serving the nation and elevating the standing of the Islamic Revolution. 

President Raisi lost his life on May 19, when his helicopter crashed in the mountainous region of northwestern Iran. His funeral ceremonies were attended by millions of people in different Iranian cities. 

In accordance with Iran’s constitution, snap presidential elections were held less than 50 days after Raisi’s passing with Iranians voting in two rounds on June 28 and July 5 to choose the successor to the late president. Pezeshkian won both rounds of the presidential race and was declared president after gaining 53.7 percent of the runoff vote.
