SCO member states strengthen border cooperation in Shanghai
TEHRAN – Senior border officials from member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) met in Shanghai, China on Wednesday to discuss further cooperation on border issues.
The meeting, which followed an earlier expert-level discussion, focused on exploring ways to enhance collaboration and address shared challenges along shared borders.
Iran was represented by Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, Commander of the Iranian Border Guards.
The SCO is a Eurasian political, economic, and security organization founded in 2001. Initially known as the "Shanghai Five," the organization began with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
Iran officially joined the SCO as a full member in September 2023. Prior to full membership, Iran held observer status within the organization since 2005.
