ECO Studies Expansion of Sail Tracks in Member States

ALMATY The fifth session of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on rail transportation which began in Almaty Tuesday continued its work Thursday with participants exchanging views on a transit agreement signed by members, it was announced on Thursday.
Representatives from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey are participating in the meeting.
Uzbek and Afghan representatives have not attended the meeting due to unknown reasons.
The transit agreement was signed by the ECO members in April, 1998 during the third session of ECO members in Islamabad of Pakistan.
Experts are to brief the meeting on rail transportation mainly through Eastern China, Europe, South Korea, Central Asia and East Asia.
Earlier on Wednesday, the participants discussed launching of an international passenger train as well as cargo trains through Almaty, Tashkent, Tehran and Istanbul.
The meeting is to conclude its on Thursday evening.
