TEHRAN – In line with the protection of the national lands and resources, as well as preservation of green spaces, the plan to restore Chitgar forest park has commenced.

Founded in 1963, the forest park is situated in Tehran; it covers an area of about 14.5 square kilometers. The park is known to be effective in mitigating air pollution in the city.

The plan includes taking necessary measures for the irrigation of the trees, which have not been watered for many years; the removal of trees’ pests, and the issuance of land certificate for Chitgar forest park under the ownership of natural resources and watershed management organization after 60 years.

A special working group is established to provide solutions to prevent trees from drying out and reviving them, as well as following up on the plan.

The working group is also responsible for preparing planting certificates and plaques for all trees, supplying water resources needed for tree irrigation, creating a new water supply network for green space irrigation, collecting dry and infested trees and replacing them with new trees.

Regular and planned irrigation of dried trees will continue for a month. In case they do not revive, immediate action should be taken to plant replacement trees.

Formerly 800 trees were cut down, but about a thousand trees have been planted so far.
