Iranian MP condemns silence on Israeli atrocities in Gaza
TEHRAN – Sara Fallahi, the representative of Ilam in Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, has criticized the silence of human rights advocates regarding the Israeli regime's actions in Gaza, which has led to a severe humanitarian crisis.
Speaking at a conference titled "Investigating the Crimes of the Israeli Regime Against Women and Children in Gaza," Fallahi highlighted the extensive history of documented human rights violations by Israel since its establishment with British support in 1948. She noted that these violations have disproportionately affected Palestinian women and children.
"Till April 2024, 34,488 people from Gaza have been martyred, including 14,500 children," Fallahi stated. "On a daily basis, 63 women, including 37 mothers, have been killed since the beginning of the Gaza war. Additionally, 17,000 children have been orphaned."
The Iranian lawmaker underscored that international charters provide protections for women and children, yet the Israeli regime has repeatedly ignored these provisions.
She cited the 1924 Geneva Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the Declaration on the Protection of Women and Children in Emergency and Armed Conflict, along with reports from the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, as evidence of Israel's blatant and severe human rights violations.
She further pointed out that under Article 8 of the International Criminal Court, Israel's actions—including public torture, inflicting severe physical and mental harm, destruction and seizure of civilian property, hostage-taking, and bombings of cities—constitute war crimes.
Concluding her remarks, Fallahi expressed hope that through unity and solidarity among Islamic governments, positive changes could be achieved. "With collective efforts, we hope to witness the liberation of Palestine," she stated.
