Russia: Rejected peace proposal will bring tougher terms

June 17, 2024 - 19:41

The conditions of the next peace proposal for Ukraine if the current one is rejected will be more complex and harsh, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Director Sergey Naryshkin told TASS.

"The conditions on which peace can be achieved and some sort of a peace agreement may be signed will become more complex and tough for Ukraine," he said, replying to a question as to what will happen if Ukraine refuses Russian President Vladimir Putin’s peace proposal.

Putin promised Friday to “immediately” order a ceasefire in Ukraine and begin negotiations if Kyiv started withdrawing troops from the four regions annexed by Moscow in 2022 and renounced plans to join NATO.

Ukraine responded by calling Putin’s proposal “manipulative” and “absurd.”
