Defense chief highlights the late Raisi's push for arms export
TEHRAN - Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani has highlighted the significant role played by the late President Ebrahim Raisi in enhancing the Ministry of Defense's international reach.
“During his foreign trips, President Raisi facilitated the presentation of the ministry's achievements to independent nations, paving the way for export opportunities,” Brigadier General Ashtiani said on Tuesday.
Emphasizing President Raisi's belief in supporting universities and knowledge-based companies, Ashtiani stated that research budgets were increased under Raisi’s guidance to drive more projects in the defense industry. “With the President’s backing, these budgets saw substantial growth, resulting in numerous achievements,” Ashtiani noted.
The defense minister also highlighted the country's robust defense system that ensures national security at various altitudes. He clarified that while the ministry produces these products, their proliferation is managed by the government, a process well-supported by Raisi during his three-year presidency.
Reflecting on the past three years, Ashtiani praised the collective efforts within the Ministry of Defense as a significant leap forward. He emphasized the importance of continuing this path driven by the intelligence and talent of young forces for the benefit of the government and the people.
In recent years, Iranian military specialists and engineers have achieved notable advancements in producing a diverse array of equipment, fostering self-reliance within the armed forces.
Officials from Iran continuously affirm their commitment to enhancing the nation's military capabilities, emphasizing their defensive nature.
In May the Defense Ministry announced that Iran has increased arms exports four to five times in the past two years.
Experts believe Iranian weapons have gained recognition in the international market due to their high efficiency and low costs. Iranian-made UAVs and missiles are believed to be among the most sought-after weapons in the world.
