SPIEF sets up working group on technological co-op based on BRICS business council

June 10, 2024 - 18:38

The creation of a Working group on technological cooperation between the countries on the basis of the BRICS Business Council was announced on the sidelines of the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) as part of the session "Expansion of BRICS. New opportunities for Business Cooperation."

Increasing the "added value" of economic and technological cooperation within the framework of the BRICS is indicated as one of the goals of the group. The authors of the initiative also believe that it will help to organise joint development and implementation of new solutions in the countries of the association.

Among the tasks of the working group are the organisation of joint activities to collect technological practices (including through the BRICS Solutions Awards), coordination of new formats of joint work among the BRICS member countries (venture funds, investment platforms, analytical funds, etc.), and attracting technology companies from the countries of the association to a dialogue on joint visionary projects.

Andrey Siling, Executive Director of the National Technological Initiative Platform (NTI Platform), noted in an exclusive commentary for TV BRICS that technology is a factor that not only determines the sovereignty of a country but also its future.

The expert explained that it is difficult for a single country to cope with many modern challenges alone, so the BRICS platform represents an excellent opportunity for organising global cooperation.
"At this site, we are ready, together with our foreign colleagues, to work out a mechanism for exchanging information and the best practices of companies and organisations," he said.

He added that the unification states represent the poles of original civilisations: Chinese, Arab, Russian, African, Latin American, and Iranian, and each of them has its own interpretation of technology. Andrey Siling pointed out that the BRICS countries should develop together, maintain a constructive dialogue, and remember that tradition should be at the heart of the most high-tech innovation.

"Today, the BRICS countries are interested in preserving their identity. They are wondering: How can you make a leap into the future based on your own cultural code? We will form the answer to this question in the depths of the Working Group on Technological Cooperation of the BRICS Business Council," the expert believes.
