Iranian acting President congratulates Indian PM Modi on election victory
TEHRAN – Iran's acting President Mohammad Mokhber has extended his congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his victory in the recent parliamentary elections.
In a message sent on Friday, Mokhber praised the strengthening of the partnership between Iran and India under Modi's leadership. He expressed hope that the strong determination from both nations would lead to further enhancement of bilateral relations.
Responding to Mokhber's message, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude and affirmed that Tehran and New Delhi would continue to collaborate to expand their bilateral relations and promote regional peace, security, and prosperity.
Despite Modi's declaration of victory on Tuesday, his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not secure a majority in several key states, reflecting a notable shift in the political landscape after a decade of BJP dominance.
The Hindu nationalist party, along with its allies, has agreed to form a new government, positioning Modi for a likely third consecutive term as Prime Minister. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition holds 293 seats in parliament, ensuring its control over the legislature.
