Violin player, instructor Minoo Oftadeh passes away

TEHRAN-Renowned Iranian violin player and instructor Minoo Oftadeh passed away in Tehran on June 6 at the age of 66 after enduring a long period of illness.

Born in May 1958, she entered the National Music Conservatory at the age of 10. She specialized in the violin. During her high school years, she also learned to play the piano and the tombak. Afterward, she joined the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, ISNA reported.

From the age of 16, she actively participated in the Culture and Arts Orchestra, the Women’s Orchestra, and the tombak group under the supervision of maestro Mohammad Esmaeil. She performed extensively in various cities across Iran and also taught violin and kamancheh (spike fiddle) at the Center for Preservation and Promotion of Music at the IRIB.

Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Oftadeh continued her musical endeavors, participating in several musical groups and recording soundtracks. She also held concerts both within and outside the country. Recently, she focused more on teaching at the Music Faculty and the Roudaki Foundation, as well as conducting classes at reputable institutions.

The funeral procession for Oftadeh took place on Friday at Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery in south of Tehran and she was buried in the Artists’ Section.
