Iraq should implement security agreement with Iran: top general
TEHRAN – In a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari on wednesday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri stressed the need to implement the security agreement between the two countries.
Under the security agreement between Iran and Iraq, the activities of terrorist groups opposing the Islamic Republic of Iran in northern Iraq are to be monitored, and the leaders of these activities are to be expelled from these areas.
The discussion underscored the strategic importance of strengthening relations with Iraq. Despite recent tragic events, including the tragic death of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his companions, both nations remain committed to expanding bilateral ties, a decision supported by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Additionally, Iraq's proactive measures to enhance border security were discussed during a meeting between the Interior Ministers of Iran and Iraq.
Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi stated that the Iraqi government has initiated various actions to improve security, including the establishment of guidance and driving stations, implementation of patrols, and utilization of surveillance technology such as cameras and radars.
These efforts, according to Vahidi, aim to address the alarming frequency of road accidents, which have resulted in the loss of numerous Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims' lives in recent years.
