Iran to remain steadfast despite tragic death of top officials: Spokesman
TEHRAN – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has affirmed that the country's progress and influential roles on regional and international stages will remain steadfast, despite the tragic deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi and his companions in the Sunday helicopter crash.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X on Friday.
Kanaani commended the leadership of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and the resilience of the Iranian people amid the tragic events.
"Under the protection of a wise Leader and a great, appreciative and vigilant nation, there will be no disruption in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s progress and its constructive and effective role in regional and international affairs," he asserted.
President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, along with their companions lost their lives tragically in a helicopter crash as they were returning from an inauguration ceremony in Azerbaijan.
President Raisi was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon at the Imam Reza holy Shrine in Mashhad, a significant religious site for millions of Shia pilgrims.
During the funeral for Amir Abdollahian, Kanaani noted the extensive participation from various regions and the numerous condolence messages, reflecting Iran's significant global standing. He acknowledged the loss to Iran's diplomatic corps but emphasized the enduring stability and institutional foundations of Iran’s foreign policy, rooted in the ideals of Imam Khomeini, the guidance of Ayatollah Khamenei, and the principles of the Iranian Constitution.
