Leader thanks Pakistan for deep sympathy over passing of President Raisi
TEHRAN- In a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution lauded Islamabad for its heartfelt condolences over the martyrdom of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the potential for a new peak in relations under Pakistan's new government and referenced President Raisi's recent visit to Pakistan as a significant step towards enhancing cooperation.
"Relations with Pakistan are very important for the Islamic Republic of Iran, and we view this country in a completely brotherly manner. However, the relations between the two countries have had ups and downs in recent years, and we believe that under the new government of Pakistan, there is the possibility of a renewed peak in these relations,” the Leader stated.
"Friendly relations between brotherly countries are not always easy, and obstacles must be overcome to advance cooperation and progress diligently and practically,” he added.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif echoed Ayatollah Khamenei's sentiments, describing President Raisi's visit as a catalyst for deepening ties between Iran and Pakistan. Both leaders also expressed optimism about the prospects for increased cooperation across various sectors.
President Raisi and Minister Amir Abdollahian were killed during a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on Sunday, which occurred due to severe weather conditions.
