The organizers of the festival announced the cancellation of the event due to the death of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, along with a number of local officials, in a tragic helicopter crash in northwestern Iran.
The closing ceremony, which was scheduled to take place this evening in Mashhad, will no longer be held, the organizers announced on Monday.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Ebrahim Raisi's family, and all those who have been affected by this tragic event," the organizers said in a statement.
