Leader voices hope for safe return of president to nation’s arms
TEHRAN – In a meeting with families of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps on the occasion of Imam Reza's (pbuh) birth anniversary, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, addressed the worrying helicopter incident involving President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation.
The Leader stated, “We hope that the Almighty God will return the respected and esteemed President and his entourage to the arms of the nation. Everyone should pray for the health of these people who are serving the Iranian nation. The nation doesn't need to be worried or anxious as the administration of the country will not be disrupted at all.”
A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi faced an incident on Sunday during a visit to the country’s northwest, the national TV reported.
The incident reportedly occurred as a result of dense fog in the region, which is making conditions difficult for rescue teams, the TV said.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian was also aboard the copter.
Raisi was traveling in East Azerbaijan province. The incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of Tehran.
Raisi had been in Azerbaijan early Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
According to the TV, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi has said the helicopter was forced to make emergency landing due to the whether condition.
